The Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher is a model of efficiency – it’s space efficient, energy efficient, and the modest price means that it’s cost efficient too.
Considering it’s small size and low water consumption the DDW611WLED offers great cleaning performance, and although there are a couple of minor niggles with the design which we’ll cover later in this review, overall it does a solid job and is an ideal dishwasher model for those who are short of space in the kitchen.
- Enough space to wash six place-settings per load
- Energy-efficient with low water consumption
- Quick and easy to install
- Six wash cycles and an LED display
- Modern, durable design
Despite its diminutive dimensions the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher still has a reasonable amount of space to load your dishes. For typical use it’s fine and tall enough to accommodate full-sized dinner plates, although you’ll struggle to squeeze in larger pots, pans and utensils.
Using barely three gallons (12 liters) of water per load the DDW611WLED uses less water per place-setting than washing by hand. It also doesn’t use that much electricity so you can rest assured that you won’t see your energy bills rocket.
The small size of the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher means that it can fit quite easily in the tight spaces. Weighing in at about 50 lbs means it’s hardly a featherweight, but it is light enough for one person to move around and lift without problems.
Setting up the dishwasher is also straightforward – its draws water directly from the faucet so there is no plumbing involved. Beyond that you just need to plug it into an electrical outlet.
Countertop dishwashers are typically pretty bare-bones when it comes to controls and wash cycle options. The Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher bucks the trend by having six cycles to choose from and proper electronic controls with an easy to ready LED display – putting it on a par with many full-sized dishwashers.
The DDW611WLED sports a stainless-steel interior which means it will stand the test of time. The whole unit feels solidly constructed, especially when the low price is taken into consideration.
The external design is fairly straightforward and unfussy. It isn’t going to win any style awards but will look fine in any kitchen. It would be nice if it had a few color options – the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher is only available in white at time of writing.
Apart from saving space, the ease of installation is one of the main advantages of a countertop dishwasher versus its full-sized bigger brothers.
The DDW611WLED is no exception – although there is a little bit of assembly required it is all so simple that you should be up and running within minutes rather than hours.
The first job is deciding where to put the dishwasher. Ideally it is going to be alongside your sink for optimum performance and to make it easier to connect and disconnect the faucet adapter.
It is possible to place the DDW611WLED below the sink, but there are no mounting options and connecting the hose to the faucet could be a bit tricky (you have around four feet of hose to play with). Both the water inlet and outlet are pump-controlled so your dishwasher will still drain even if it is sitting lower than the drainage point.
The next step is where a little assembly is required but it’s easy and is just a case of connecting the drain hose, inlet host and faucet adapter.
Using the Dishwasher
The Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher has six different wash cycles and a proper control panel which makes it easy to run the right program depending of what dishes have been loaded.
The DDW611WLED’s wash cycles include “heavy” for really tough loads, “normal” for typical loads, “light” for a full load of lightly soiled dishes, “glass” for a more delicate clean, “speed” which skips the drying process to save time, and soak which is the pre-rinse option.
The control panel makes it very clear which wash cycle you have selected, with a separate button and LED light for each program. The panel also has a few extra features including a rinse aid warning light, and a delay button if you want the wash cycle to start at a later time.
Loading the dishwasher is a simple task although it might take a little while to get used to the different layout if you are used to using a full-sized dishwasher. You’ll find the detergent and rinse-aid dispensers on the inside of the dishwasher door, just like any other dishwasher.
When all is said and done, cleaning performance is the most important factor when considering any dishwasher and fortunately for the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher does a great job in this regard.
Running the DDW611WLED on the “normal” wash cycle shifts all but the most stubborn baked on food and drying performance is also impressive. A “normal” wash cycle is quite lengthy at 85 minutes although if you are dealing with a lighter load the “speed” cycle only takes 45.
Overall the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher is a great solution if space in your kitchen is at a premium. Of course load size is sacrificed, but cleaning performance is not and it does just as a good a job as a full-sized dishwasher.
Problems? You are limited to where you can put the DDW611WLED – mounting options would have been nice, and having white as the only color option is a bit of a pity and hopefully Danby can address this in the future.
In conclusion then, the Danby DDW611WLED Countertop Dishwasher is an excellent choice that delivers in three key areas – it’s small, energy-efficient, and is good at cleaning dishes. If space is of a concern then this model is certainly worth considering!
